Big Blockbuster Boredom

Big Blockbuster Boredom

In the latter days of 2015, I remember looking at the list of movies coming out in 2016 and thinking, “next year is going to be an amazing year for movies.  There is so much good stuff coming out.”  Now, here it is, the middle of August in 2016, and I find myself wondering what happened to all those movies I was excited about?  Did I kid myself into thinking there was a ton of great movies coming out?  I don’t think I was fooling myself, I seem to recall actually believing that this year would be full of nonstop excitement when looking ahead to the crop of blockbusters coming out this year.  And yet, here I am, just over halfway through the year in the aftermath of the summer movie season, feeling somewhat let down and disappointed overall.  It’s not that the movies this year were bad per se, with one or two exceptions, rather, it is that most of the movies this year turned out to be just…..average, pedestrian, formulaic, uninspired, etc.

Let’s take a look back at the once promising list and see if we can figure out just where things went wrong. More

137 Ghostbusters Tangle with Dr Mindbender

Welcome back to the Neverland Podcast!
There’s something strange in Neverland this week, and it’s a new Ghostbusters movie. I’ve got a review of this attempted reboot of a beloved franchise which unlike it’s predecessor, leaves things open for a sequel. Perhaps there was more desire for a series of movies rather than just to make one good movie? Find out in the Neverland Movie Review!
Before that we’ve got some fun Disney Park news and some exciting movie and video game news that is certified fresh! And after the review, Lost Boy Eric has a great conversation with voice actor Brian Cummings which you will probably know best as being the voice of Dr. Mindbender from G.I.Joe!
And finally prepared to get Tangled up at the Royal Theater in Disneyland as Jeremy is on the road to Rolla, MO!

What We Can Learn from Ghostbusters

What We Can Learn from Ghostbusters

It’s been a little more than three decades since we were introduced to the world of the ghost-catching trio from New York, and now we’re looking at a reboot that has caused a bit of controversy – which is not surprising given the cult status of the original.

I mean, how can any Ghostbusters movie be any good without Bill effin’ Murray (although we’re going to see him in the film in a different capacity)? At least that’s what critics have been harping on from the get go.

From our end, however, as the release of Ghostbusters 3 comes nearer, all we can think of are Twinkies, proton packs, and a good bit of slime here and there.

We believe that a re-watch of the Ghostbusters can fix most any problem you have, but it’s not all fun and games when it comes to the point. In fact, there are some serious lessons we can pick up from this funny movie. And we mean applicable to life situations serious.

If you feel you need some guidance in life, look no further. Let the Ghostbusters be your guide.

5. Stay sharp, keep fit, make good decisions.

Stay fit

So you’ve got image issues. You somehow don’t look like The Rock no matter how many protein shakes you drink. Who cares?

Louis Tully was as dorky-looking as they come, and yet he has gone down in history as part of the most badass ghost-catching team ever. How did he manage that? He had his rule. His mantra he kept repeating over and over and over and over.

Stay sharp, keep fit, make good decisions.

You’ll do just fine.

4. Suit up.

Need a little confidence boost? Take a cue from the trio: suit up.

That is, wear a uniform. Ridiculous idea?

Think about it. Look where their uniforms got them. As baggy and not-exactly-fashionable their ghostbusting attire was, Peter, Ray, and Egon got some attention (some not so welcome, though) because of the getup.

3. Confidence is everything.

Don’t think you can pull off a baggy brown jumpsuit? Although we’re pretty sure you can, if you can’t be convinced, that’s all right. There’s another lesson you can pick up from Ghostbusters – a lesson that will get you really far in life.

Believe in yourself and what you do. And let others know it.

Take Peter Venkman’s cue.

Back off

Always be ready to say “Back off, man. I’m a geek.” And say it with conviction. Practice in front of the mirror if you have to. Watch people give way to your awesomeness.

2. Fake it till you make it.

Going to a job interview? Taking a test? Nervous on your first day at work? Launching a startup and not sure how you’re going to do things?

Five words: Fake it till you make it.

When you feel uncertain, channel your inner Ray. Think of him saying “Don’t worry. We handle this kind of thing all the time!“. Sign the check.

Adjust to fit your own situation.

1. Super Mario Bros is your best romantic weapon.

Struggling with your love life and feeling like you’ll never find the love of your life?

Well, stop sulking in your corner.

Grab Super Mario Bros, and invite your person of interest. There’s a 99.99 percent chance you’ll end up like Janine and Louis Tully.

If it doesn’t work, then that person is probably not worth your while.

BONUS: Well, it’s not really a bonus, but more like a given…

If there’s one thing that we can never forget about Ghostbusters that is important in life, it is to know our emergency numbers. It’s simple as that.

For sure, these aren’t the only nuggets of wisdom.  If you like this, check out things you can learn from Star Wars and let us know what is excluded from the list that you think should be in there?

There was so much going on in Disney movie entertainment this week that this episode will be another long one!
