Marvelette Missives – Happy 100, Mr. Kirby

Last month would have marked the 100th birthday of comic book icon Jack Kirby. For those not as familiar with the history of comics, Kirby was not only an artist, writer and editor, but he created some of the most well-known characters and styles that are still seen in comics today. His first, and biggest, character creation (working with artist Joe Simon) was in 1940: Captain America. Over his career he wrote, drew and/or created dozens of heroes and worked for Marvel and DC, as well as doing freelance work. He was a large part of what Stan Lee dubbed “the Marvel method” of creating comics in a particular style.  More

With so many great animated TV shows being broadcast nowadays, it’s important to remember those that came before. And what not to do when adapting them! Scott and Mark Russell take a look at one of their most hated films, that came from one of their most beloved cartoons. They talk about the adaptation process, Racebending, and why M. Night Shyamalan was probably on cactus juice when he made this movie.

Coin Operated 184: You’ll Float Too

This week we talked about how we survived the Hurricane to end all Hurricanes: Irma. Brian and Cody talk about how they saw clowns and debris and random things float by them either by water or wind.

Cody spent the majority of the hurricane one way while Brian another.

They also found time to watch the movie IT. Cody listened to the Audio book as Brian took the analog route and is reading it.

Cody spoils some of the more messed up portions on the Book so spoils on that.
