Coin Operated 182: No One Likes You When You’re 23

This week podcast episode Brian and Cody talk about how DC new books are killing it. We focus on Dark Nights Metal as an example of this. Brian got to Skype with Scott Snyder for the midnight release at the bar he works at.

The boys also talked about some of the new features in Pokemon go and how it somewhat got fix. Also we shed light on Moviepass and why it is not the best investment with AMC trying to Negan it.  Enjoy this weeks podcast episode as we prepare to drop our cross over with Hard At Work (https://www.podbean.com/site/Search/index?v=hard+at+work)

        Dying is forever…unless it isn’t…

geek happeningsI first became aware of Kory Shrum through Twitter. I knew she was a writer but had no idea about what she had written. Then she started mentioning the second book of her Jesse Sullivan book series “Dying by the Hour.” It sounded so interesting I had to go and check out the first book of the series “Dying for a Living.” I am glad I did. I was instantly hooked by the character of Jesse Sullivan. She was snarky, and witty. Not unlike two of my other favorite characters from novels, Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” series as well as Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s “Hollows” series.

Why You Should Be Reading – Forever Evil

          imagesWARNING!!! TRINITY WAR SPOILERS!!!

If you’ve been reading, I told you the Trinity War was going to bring about something epic.  The Crime Syndicate has been unleashed and all the major players in the DC Universe are gone, seemingly killed by dark “superheroes” of Earth Three.  In the last Justice League we saw the new Atom revealed as a triple agent named Atomica.  The Justice league thought she was on their side, JLA thought she was working for them, and all the while she was a member of The Syndicate.  Justice League #23 ends with Superman neutralized, a sliver of Kryptonite implanted in his brain, and Cyborg’s systems hacked, turning him into Syndicate member Grid.

Why You Should Be Reading – The Punisher: War Zone

79f2I guess I should’ve titled this “Why You Should Have Read” since this is a story from last year, but I just read it again and I still love it.  Following the events of Greg Ruckas 16 issue run simply titled ‘The Punisher”, Rucka’s War Zone is a 5 issue mini series which is best sold by its tag line:  The Punisher vs. The Avengers.

Why You Should Be Reading JLA

              file_203551_0_jlacv2658

We all learned about the “cold war” in school.  Two opposing forces amassing an arsenal to take the other out, but never using it because each side knew the other had plethora of weapons too.  Sometimes the best weapon is one you never have to use, but everyone feels better knowing you’ve got that card to play when the proverbial  “stuff” hits the fan.

In comic terms, superhero teams have always had an evil super-villian group to match wits against, but in “The New 52”, DC is taking its answer to The Justice League in a different direction.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE READING “ALL NEW X-MEN”

What if?  How many times have you asked yourself that question in your daily life? I recently lost my mom and I ask myself all the time: “If I had a chance, what would I say?  If I had one more day, what would we do?”  In comics, especially Marvel, that question seemingly is asked and answered every month and while they’re usually cool books, they’re also typically self-contained stories that don’t affect the comic universe.  Rarely, however, does the “What if…” become “What now?”

Why You Should Be Reading Nightwing

Why You Should Be Reading Nightwing

Today I begin a mission.  A mission to share my love and passion for the comics and characters I grew up with and explain why you should be bringing them into your life.  Everyone’s got their favorites.  Superman, The X-Men, Batman  and Spiderman usually top the list as they should (heck, I’ve got a Batman tattoo), but what about  all of the others?
