GW1 Issue 108 – It’s All a Front

GW1 Issue 108 – It’s All a Front

We’re a little all over the place this week, but you can probably tell we had a good time. After a very brief update of our goings on, we get into myriad tv shows we’ve watched from the 80s through to today (and some crazy plot lines), what we like/don’t like about movie trailers and why detailed origin story movies aren’t necessary. We also say farewell to a Bat icon and talk Star Wars costumes.  More

What We Can Learn from Ghostbusters

What We Can Learn from Ghostbusters

It’s been a little more than three decades since we were introduced to the world of the ghost-catching trio from New York, and now we’re looking at a reboot that has caused a bit of controversy – which is not surprising given the cult status of the original.

I mean, how can any Ghostbusters movie be any good without Bill effin’ Murray (although we’re going to see him in the film in a different capacity)? At least that’s what critics have been harping on from the get go.

From our end, however, as the release of Ghostbusters 3 comes nearer, all we can think of are Twinkies, proton packs, and a good bit of slime here and there.

We believe that a re-watch of the Ghostbusters can fix most any problem you have, but it’s not all fun and games when it comes to the point. In fact, there are some serious lessons we can pick up from this funny movie. And we mean applicable to life situations serious.

If you feel you need some guidance in life, look no further. Let the Ghostbusters be your guide.

                5. Stay sharp, keep fit, make good decisions.

                Stay fit

So you’ve got image issues. You somehow don’t look like The Rock no matter how many protein shakes you drink. Who cares?

Louis Tully was as dorky-looking as they come, and yet he has gone down in history as part of the most badass ghost-catching team ever. How did he manage that? He had his rule. His mantra he kept repeating over and over and over and over.

Stay sharp, keep fit, make good decisions.

                You’ll do just fine.

                4. Suit up.

Need a little confidence boost? Take a cue from the trio: suit up.

That is, wear a uniform. Ridiculous idea?

Think about it. Look where their uniforms got them. As baggy and not-exactly-fashionable their ghostbusting attire was, Peter, Ray, and Egon got some attention (some not so welcome, though) because of the getup.

                3. Confidence is everything.

Don’t think you can pull off a baggy brown jumpsuit? Although we’re pretty sure you can, if you can’t be convinced, that’s all right. There’s another lesson you can pick up from Ghostbusters – a lesson that will get you really far in life.

Believe in yourself and what you do. And let others know it.

                Take Peter Venkman’s cue.

                Back off

Always be ready to say “Back off, man. I’m a geek.” And say it with conviction. Practice in front of the mirror if you have to. Watch people give way to your awesomeness.

                2. Fake it till you make it.

Going to a job interview? Taking a test? Nervous on your first day at work? Launching a startup and not sure how you’re going to do things?

Five words: Fake it till you make it.

When you feel uncertain, channel your inner Ray. Think of him saying “Don’t worry. We handle this kind of thing all the time!“. Sign the check.

Adjust to fit your own situation.

                1. Super Mario Bros is your best romantic weapon.

Struggling with your love life and feeling like you’ll never find the love of your life?

Well, stop sulking in your corner.

Grab Super Mario Bros, and invite your person of interest. There’s a 99.99 percent chance you’ll end up like Janine and Louis Tully.

If it doesn’t work, then that person is probably not worth your while.

BONUS: Well, it’s not really a bonus, but more like a given…

If there’s one thing that we can never forget about Ghostbusters that is important in life, it is to know our emergency numbers. It’s simple as that.

For sure, these aren’t the only nuggets of wisdom.  If you like this, check out things you can learn from Star Wars and let us know what is excluded from the list that you think should be in there?

Ten Easy (and Awesome) Movie-Themed Costumes for Halloween

by  ~ Crave Online Halloween is nearly upon us. If you’re anything like me, you probably picked out your costume many months ago, and have been strategizing as to how you can make such a costume in time for the big night. But if you’re anything like me, then you can relate to the sad experience of trick-or-treating into your twenties (parents tend to give you nasty looks, no matter how cool your costume is). But I realize that many people in the world aren’t as Halloween obsessive as I, and I imagine the average citizen still has mental plans, even at this late date, to go to the nearest costume shop in order to select a pre-fab costume on a whim.
